Privacy Policy
Privacy should be understandable.
This policy explains what ScoutLocal collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the ScoutLocal mobile app and the scoutlocal.novalyse.com website.
ScoutLocal is a product of Novalyse LLC ("ScoutLocal," "we," "us," or "our"). We help military families find trusted local businesses, services, and events near their base, and we maintain a verified directory of military-spouse-owned businesses. This Privacy Policy describes our practices for the ScoutLocal mobile app (iOS and Android) and the ScoutLocal website.
1. Information we collect
Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address and a password (handled by our authentication provider), and your name.
Profile and onboarding information. To personalize the directory we collect your selected base, military branch, time at base, and optional details you choose to share such as household stage, the age ranges of children in your household, arrival status, your top needs, and routine and discovery preferences. Providing optional details is your choice.
Business owner information. If you list or claim a business, we collect the business name, description, category, address, contact details, hours, photos, social links, and ownership and verification information.
Content you submit. Saved favorites, suggested events, problem reports, beta feedback, and messages you send us.
Photos. If you upload business photos, we access the images you select from your device. We request photo-library and camera permission only for this purpose.
Device and usage information. Basic technical and usage information needed to operate and improve the service, such as app version, device type, sign-in activity, and in-app screen views. If you enable notifications we store a push token for your device.
Payment information (business owners). Paid business subscriptions are processed by Stripe. We do not collect or store your full card number; Stripe handles card data directly. We retain limited records such as a customer identifier and subscription status.
2. How we use information
We use information to operate the directory and your account; personalize what you see near your base; verify business listings; process business subscription payments; send transactional messages (such as email confirmation and password reset) and, if you opt in, beta updates and notifications; respond to support requests, reports, and feedback; measure and improve the product; and protect the service and our users.
3. Military family privacy
Base affiliation can be operationally sensitive, so ScoutLocal is built to protect it. We do not publish public user profiles, your saved-place activity, or live presence indicators tied to your base. We do not sell military family data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
4. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with service providers that help us run ScoutLocal, and only as needed to provide the service:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and file storage hosting.
- Stripe — payment processing for business subscriptions.
- Resend — transactional email, opt-in beta updates, and newsletter email.
- Expo / Expo push service — delivery of push notifications.
- Diagnostics tooling — limited error and crash diagnostics to keep the app stable.
- GovX and AMSE — military-spouse-ownership verification, for business owners who go through that path.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in connection with a business transfer. Where information is shared, it remains subject to each provider's own privacy practices.
5. Your choices and rights
You can view and update your profile in the app, opt out of marketing email using the unsubscribe link in any message, and turn push notifications off in your device or app settings. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your information at any time. To delete your account and data, see Delete my data or email support@novalyse.com. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (for example, California residents under the CCPA) to know what we collect, request deletion, and not be discriminated against for exercising those rights; we honor these requests for all users.
6. Children's privacy
ScoutLocal is intended for users 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
7. Data retention and security
We keep information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service and meet legal, accounting, or reporting obligations, after which we delete or anonymize it. We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including database access controls and encrypted transport, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as ScoutLocal evolves. We will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice where appropriate.
